Summary: Under close supervision, performs basic service, preventive maintenance and
adjustments on automobiles and equipment; assists with technical repair and maintenance of City
vehicles and equipment.

· Performs basic maintenance of vehicles and equipment within scope of authority, and in
accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; performs inspections on vehicles,
equipment and components; checks and maintains tires, batteries, lights, belts & hoses; performs
oil and filter changes and checks other fluids for appropriate levels; identifies and reports problems
requiring additional services.
· Performs specific vehicle repairs as directed, including replacing electrical and mechanical
components; performs small engine repairs.
· Orders parts as needed, researches vendors and other supply sources, enters data into computer
system; maintains records of parts requisitions and inventory.
· Maintains records and logs of services performed and general vehicle information.
· Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe
conditions, accidents and injuries.
· Assists with unscheduled maintenance in emergency situations as directed.
· Performs routine facility maintenance; cleans shop areas and picks up debris.
· Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Knowledge and Skills:
· Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
· Knowledge of principles and methods used in a preventive maintenance program.
· Knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used in the repair of vehicles and equipment.

The Automotive Technician position requires your experience and technical expertise to diagnose drivability and electrical systems, while using your leadership and mentoring skills in driving a team toward increased customer care and satisfaction.

Pay Range: $16.50 - $24.80

As a Field Diesel Mechanic (Service Tech IV - Field Service), you’ll use your skills to perform maintenance and repairs of complex equipment with limited or no supervision in a highly skilled, safe, and professional manner. **What you'll do:**

+ Maintenance and repair of complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems on a variety of rental and customer equipment and tools while using a high degree of independent judgment

+ Travel to customer job sites for repair/maintenance of rental or customer owned equipment; must maintain service vehicle in a clean and professional manner

+ Assist in the training of lower level technicians as needed

+ Maintain paperwork/electronic documentation of work performed (work orders) in a complete and timely manner on a daily basis

+ Assist with pick-up and delivery of equipment & parts

+ Other duties assigned as needed

**Requirements:**

+ High School diploma or equivalent

+ Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record

+ 5+ years of experience repairing/maintaining equipment and tools

+ Advanced mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of tools

+ Extensive knowledge of construction equipment with an advanced understanding of schematics and diagrams

+ Must own tools applicable to position

+ Superior customer service, teamwork and verbal/written communication skills

+ Ability to frequently lift items up to 45 lbs.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintains a working knowledge of, and moderate skill proficiency in, the following vehicle components and systems, with the ability to perform preventative and repair maintenance functions, both on-site and on the road.

+ Chassis component repair and maintenance.

+ Refuse bodies, including control, hydraulic and electrical systems; and air and hydraulic braking systems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

+ Basic understanding of work order labor time standards.
